Part 4 - National Gallery and Waterloo

Today we set out to visit the National Gallery to see some paintings and things.

We slept in so we ended up having lunch at Fullers pub in Earls Court. The food was terrible and I took no pictures. We don't want to relive this meal via blog postings. lol.

We took the Earls Court underground to Piccadilly Circus. From there we would walk a few blocks over the Gallery.

When we came up from the underground we were met with a blast of tourism. Piccadilly Circus is probably the most touristy zone we've seen yet. It was kind of gross and full of all the things we didn't really want to be around. They have a TGI Fridays.. do we have to say more? We took a few snaps and carried on.

As we returned to Trafalgar Square we were met by several additional floating people trying to get money for their "trick."

We dodged all the ruckus and headed inside the National Gallery to begin our tour.
We snapped some pics of the ones we liked. We felt that they had far too many pictures of Jesus being crucified, baby Jesus, dead Jesus and a lot of pics of cupid making people get it on. Too much Renaissance era artwork for sure but it is very cool to see such amazing artwork that has lasted over time. Many of the paintings were from the 1500s. But when we made it out of those rooms we were very happy to see more Da Vinci, Degas, Monet and many other very cool artists.

After the Gallery we took the Underground over to Waterloo station. The train we were on was pretty gross. The seats looked filthy and covered in gross stuff. We should mention that Waterloo station is also huge and reminiscent of Victoria station.

We walked over to see the London Eye and walk along the River Thames for a bit. We took some great shots of Big Ben, Parliament and the London Eye. We had a pint at a small shop along the river and then went on a journey to find dinner.

We found a restaurant in Waterloo called Cucina that we settled on. Cucina is an Italian restaurant and Deanna was craving some risotto. I ordered the Rib Eye steak. The waiter asked me how I wanted my steak and I told him "medium." When my steak arrived it reminded me of a steak I had eaten at a Black Bear diner somewhere like Modesto, CA. I began to cut through it and had a tough time slicing off a piece to bite. I then tried the steak and could not believe how terrible it was. This was literally the worst steak I've ever had at a restaurant. It was tough and had an off-putting meat flavor to it. Maybe this was a frozen steak?

It was so bad that I asked them to take it back and I ordered the bangers and Mash. I loved these. The sausage was great, the gravy flavorful and the mash taters were tasty. Deanna liked her risotto a lot. So, don't order the Rib Eye if you go here.

After dinner we went back to the Waterloo station and took the Jubilee line back to Westminster for our change to the District Line back to Earls Court.

Remember when visiting London to bring your adapters and converters kids.
